Reflexology .WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology dates back at least 5000 years and was practised in
China as a form of zone therapy; over the centuries it has been
defined into what we know today as the powerful and healing foot or
hand treatment . It is thought to have been used originally to help
with pain relief, as reflexology stimulates the body to release
endorphins , the bodys’ natural painkillers .
Reflexology is a very effective form of therapeutic foot massage ,
which activates the healing powers of the body ; it works on the
long established principle that there are energy zones which run
throughout the body and reflex areas in the feet which relate to all
the major organs, glands and body parts .
Reflexology is classified as a holistic therapy, in other words it
aims to bring about good health by looking at the body as a whole
and not just a part . Reflexology reduces stress and induces deep
relaxation. Reflexology works as a preventative treatment as it aims
to trigger the body to return to a state of balance, or homeostasis.
The physical mechanism of Reflexology is still not fully understood,
but during a treatment the Reflexologist stimulates over 7000 nerves
in the feet, which works on the circulatory and nervous systems to
clear neural pathways and revitalise the body . Reflexology is an
excellent detox ! it's a natural and non invasive form of
therapy, which not only is very enjoyable , but is deeply healing
and relaxing . Many people have found relief from long term ailments
or injuries through reflexology as it seeks to restore the body to
balance and eliminate the root problems rather than just masking the
symptoms, as is common with many conventional treatments.
As with many holistic treatments , because the therapist is only
working with your body and its’ ability to heal , it may not be an
instant fix and sometimes can seem to be slower to work than
conventional medicine – this is because it is working on a much
deeper level , restoring the body to balance and helping to
eliminate the root problem for long term benefit . Due to the fact
that the body is being urged to shake off any imbalances and toxins
it does occasionally trigger what is known as a ‘healing crisis’.
This can be anything from a headache , to excessive need to urinate
as the body is detoxing , to temporary cold symptoms ; this can be a
bit alarming especially if you are having a reflexology treatment in
order to get better , not feel worse ! , but rest assured that it is
in fact a very good sign as it is a signal that the body is
responding to the treatment and that cellular renewal and
circulatory stimulation is happening .
